HUBLI: With Haveri district receiving 800 tonnes of urea, officials of Agriculture Department began distributing the same through Raitha Samparka Kendras and agricultural cooperative societies in the taluks on Thursday.
The arrival of the consignment on Thursday brought relief of officials of the Agriculture Department and the district administration.
The officials used indelible ink to prevent farmers from claiming additional bags of urea. After farmers produced a copy of the land records, the staff at the kendras marked their forefingers with indelible ink before handing over the receipt for the amount paid for the fertilizer.
Depending on demand and availability, farmers were given either two bags or a maximum of four bags of urea.
However, protests over unavailability of fertilizers continued in the district with farmers of Katenahalli and Karajagi staging rasta roko in their villages.
Senior officials rushed to the spot to pacify them and convinced them to withdraw the agitation.
