Members of the district unit of the BJP Mahila Morcha on Friday took out a rally and staged a dharna outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office here in protest against the cap on subsidised gas cylinders imposed by the United Progressing Alliance government.

In a memorandum submitted to Deputy Commissioner V.P. Ikkeri, they stated that the UPA government had made life miserable for the common man by increasing the prices of petrol and diesel and restricting the supply of subsidised gas cylinders to six a year for each household.

In addition, the prices of all essential commodities were on the rise. Describing the decisions of the Congress-led UPA government as anti-people, they said that the Congress was no longer a people-friendly party and it had started favouring capitalists.

“The major reason for shortage of liquefied petroleum gas was black marketeering,” the morcha members said in the memorandum.
