Ananth Kumar says that Centre has mismanaged country’s economy

DAVANGERE: MP and the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Ananth Kumar, has said that the Congress led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government was directly responsible for the inflation that has touched 11.5 per cent. Scarcity of cement, steel, cooking gas and other commodities show how the UPA Government had mismanaged country’s economy, he said.

Addressing a public meeting, as a part of campaign for the Legislative Council elections, here on Saturday, Mr. Kumar alleged that the Congress led Union Government had ruined the country and noted that apart from being responsible for growing inflation, Union Government’s inaction had also let terrorism spread its roots to every corner of the country.

Sadananda Gowda, MP and president of the State BJP said that the Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular) had struck an “unholy alliance” for the Legislative Council elections.

Mr. Gowda alleged that the parties had also indulged in destabilising the BJP Government and added that the BJP would give them a befitting reply.

The BJP had won and come to power in the State by a concerted effort of last many years, he said and added that the Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular) had been trying to tarnish BJP Government’s image by blaming it for fertilizer scarcity. Mr. Gowda assured that the BJP was committed to the removal of wage discrimination among high school teachers.

BJP leader and deputy chairman State planning board D.H. Shankaramurthy said that though the Union Government had assured the State of sending over 1,20,000 tonnes of fertilizers by June 20, even half of that quantity had not arrived.
