Commissioner, Mysore City Corporation (MCC), M.R. Ravi has directed that unauthorised bus shelters in the city be cleared by those who had set them up. He also wanted bus shelters to comply with MCC advertising norms.

Dr. Ravi told The Hindu on Wednesday that some bus shelters were “unscientific” and had come up at places where they were not required. He warned those setting up the structures without authorisation that they would be guilty of encroaching the footpaths and action would be taken against them.

According to him, many shelters violated MCC norms. For example, the insignia and name of the civic body was not mentioned on some shelters, such as the one near the CADA office, which only displayed an advertisement for jewellery.

Also, some shelters including those established with the permission of the MCC, displayed only private advertisements, although guidelines required them to have socially relevant displays. Dr. Ravi said the revised guidelines for public advertisement would be taken up soon.
