GULBARGA: The Congress will soon decide on the candidate for the byelection to the Ullal Assembly constituency scheduled to be held in the first week of June.

Talking to The Hindu, president of the KPCC M. Mallikarjun Kharge said here on Monday that the party, which had deputed a team, including Kagodu Thimmappa, B.L. Shankar and K.C. Kondaiah, to assess the situation in the Assembly segment had submitted its findings after holding discussions with party workers.

He said a final decision on the candidate would be taken after consulting Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly N. Dharam Singh, Union Minister Oscar Fernandes, the former KPCC president, B. Janardhana Poojary, the former Chief Minister M. Veerappa Moily and the former Minister Blasius D'Souza. The name would be communicated to the party high command for its final approval.
