Deputy Commissioner M.T. Reju inaugurated a “Udyog Mela” (job fair) co-organised by the district administration, employment exchange, and Diya Systems Pvt. Ltd. at the district offices complex here on Thursday.

Mr. Reju said that normally such job fairs were held in Bangalore and Mangalore. Very few job fairs were held in smaller cities such as Udupi. This year, government departments had organised just three job fairs in Udupi.

Private firm Diya Systems Pvt. Ltd. should tell the rejected candidates as to why their candidature was turned down.

This would enable the candidates to work on their limitations; and they would stand a better chance of landing a job in future, Mr. Reju said.

V. Ravichandran, CEO of Diya Systems, said the company was planning to hire about 100 tech-support representatives. The candidates not shortlisted for jobs would be told by the Human Resource Department of the company about their shortcomings.

Some candidates would be given a month’s time to work on their shortcomings. They would then be called to the company headquarters in Mangalore, where they would be given a re-test; they would be selected if they did well in the test, he said.

S.D. Basavaraju, Employment Exchange Officer, welcomed the gathering.
