Bangalore: The police have arrested two women, both domestic help, on charges of robbery and recovered looted gold and silver ornaments worth over Rs. 4 lakh from them.
The accused have been identified as Shanthi alias Kumari alias Shantha Kumari (33) and Kavitha alias Savitha (20), both residents of 15th cross, Lakkasandra.
According to police, Chandrabai (53), a resident of Bhangiyappa Garden, had recently employed Kavitha as domestic help. On May 30, Kavitha went out of the house on the pretext of making a telephone call and returned home with Shanthi, who was working as a maid in the same house earlier. The duo, police said, then threatened Chandrabai at knifepoint and took the keys of wardrobe after causing a minor injury to her. Later the accused fled with gold and silver ornaments worth about Rs. 4 lakh after locking their employer inside the bedroom and getting a promise from her that she would not lodge a police complaint.
The police team led by Ashok Nagar station inspector A.B. Devaiah and woman sub-inspector Ayesha succeeded in apprehending the duo on June 4 based on a tip off.
The wife of a police head constable allegedly committed suicide by hanging at her residence in Ashoknagar police limits on Wednesday.
Police said that Mahadevamma (46) was in poor health. Moreover, she was upset as her son could not write to II PUC exams due to shortage of attendance. Her husband, Sidde Gowda, is working at Wilson Garden police station.
Two unidentified persons made away with gold ornaments worth about Rs. 1 lakh from a woman in Rajajinagar 2nd Block on the pretext of polishing them. Police said the victim handed over the ornaments to the duo despite being cautioned by her neighbours.
