Somwarpet police have arrested two persons from Puttur, who were allegedly involved in extorting money from motorists by posing as policemen.

Kasim (36) of Ankatadka and Ashraf K.P. (28) from Kedambady, were allegedly extorting money from lorry drivers at different places in Puttur over the last two months. On Saturday, the Somwarpet police found something unusual in the behaviour of two persons. Upon enquiry they revealed their illegal activities. The local magistrate on Sunday remanded the duo to judicial custody.

Robbed

Two masked men made away with two gold rings and cash from a jewellery ornament maker in Nadilu near Moodbidri on Saturday night.

According to police, Sudhakar Acharya, the jewellery maker, was returning home on his motorcycle when two stopped the vehicle and robbed him of his gold rings and cash.

Arrest

Ullal police have arrested three persons in connection with the murder of Nilesh Poojary, who was involved in several criminal cases.

The police gave the names of the accused as Chidanand (35) and Santosh (31), both from Madyar and Krishna (45) from Talapady, and have recovered the car and weapons used by the accused.

Complaint

Owner of a transport firm has filed a complaint with Mangalore North police against a lorry driver for stealing a load of arecanut and black pepper reportedly worth Rs. 39 lakh.

Raghunath Rai, the owner of Tirumala Transport, said lorry carrying 252 bags of arecanut and black pepper left Mangalore on September 2.
