BANGALORE: Two persons travelling on the top of a North East Karnataka Road Transport Corporation bus bound for Kustagi were killed after the bus hit an overhead railing near Khodays Circle on Saturday morning.
According to Chickpet traffic police, Manjanna (25) and his friend Shivappa (38) climbed on top of the bus as it was jam-packed with passengers. However, the bus driver was not aware of this fact.
While the bus was crossing the railing at around 1 a.m, Manjanna and Shivappa were hit. Manjanna died on the spot, while Shivappa was admitted to the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences. He later died in the hospital. The Chickpet traffic police have taken up a case of negligence against the bus driver and the conductor. Soon after the incident, traffic police were posted at the Kempe Gowda bus terminus to ensure that no passengers climbed on top of the buses.
A 25-year-old woman hanged herself in her house in Geddadahalli reportedly owing to harassment.
According to Sanjay Nagar police, Vinaya married Nagaraj two months ago. She was being harassed allegedly by Nagaraj for dowry. On Saturday, she wrote a note before committing suicide. The police are searching for Nagaraj.
The Upparpet police have arrested Venkatesh (25) for allegedly assaulting his former colleague Laxmi (22) near Ananda Rao Circle flyover on Friday.
According to the police, Venkatesh had recently quit the private company where Laxmi was working.
He had allegedly been harassing Laxmi for her mobile number. She asked her colleague to tell Venkatesh not to harass her.
This angered Venkatesh and he assaulted Laxmi while she was on her way to the office in Brigade Plaza. She is recovering in a private hospital, the police said.
