Sirsi: Two officers, one of the CRPF and the other of the Indian Army hailing from Sirsi, were honoured at the Republic Day ceremony.

Mahendra Hegde, Assistant Commander, CRPF, received the Best Contingent Commander award for the march past on Rajpath. He is posted at Lakshmipur, Koraput district of Orissa.

Maj. Raghunandan Hegde was given the Kolkata-based Eastern Commander’s (Army) commendation card for gallantry for rescuing a kidnapped family of an assistant manager of the National Hydro Power Corporation, Manipur, from terrorists. Maj. Hegde is associated with 17 Grenadiers and working in 5 Assam Rifles, Manipur.

Both officers were alumnus of MES College and NCC units at Sirsi.

They were recruited through NCC. NCC officers Maj. Shreepad Bhat, Lt. T.S. Halemane and Commanding Officer of 29 Karnataka Battalion Karwar have congratulated the award winners.
