CHICKABALLAPUR: The Chintamani police in Chickaballapur district have arrested two members of a gang that was involved in the theft of huge quantity of milk from the tankers of Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF).

The police said that the gang, in connivance with the tanker drivers, was stealing over 500 litres of milk daily for the past one year.

Early on Thursday, the Chintamani police stopped a goods vehicle that was transporting milk in several cans. When the driver and occupants of the vehicle did not provide a satisfactory reply, the police took them into custody for interrogation.

During questioning, Nagaraj and Narayanswamy told the police about the thriving racket. According to the police, the accused were in touch with drivers of several tankers that transported milk from KMF’s chilling units.

The tanker drivers used to telephone the accused and inform them to come to a particular spot. The accused and other associates, who arrived in goods vehicles, used to steal around 500 litres of milk from the tankers and replace it with water, the police said.

The stolen milk was supplied at Rs. 13 a litre.
