BJP workers try to attack JD(S) candidate

Party to protest ‘atrocities’ on Sunday

BELLARY: Two Janata Dal (Secular) workers were injured when they were attacked, allegedly by workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party, on Saturday in Bandimotu area in Bellary city.

Rafique and Valibasha were attacked for having worked and voted for the Janata Dal (S). They have been admitted to the VIMS Hospital. A case has been registered in the Brucepet police station.

In another incident, a five-member group, said to be BJP workers, attacked Janata Dal (S) candidate Humayun Khan with chopper. Mr. Khan managed to escape unhurt. Based on a complaint filed by him, the Bellary (Rural) police have registered a case and have arrested four persons, including Kumar, Yerriswamy and Hulgappa, who were produced before the court, the police said.

Suryanarayan Reddy, Kurgodu MLA and Political Secretary to the Chief Minister, who visited the hospital to enquire about the health of the party workers, expressed grave concern over the attack on minorities by workers of the BJP. He said the Janata Dal (S) would stage a protest demonstration on Sunday.
