Anant Kumar Hegde, Member of Parliament from Uttara Kannada, on Sunday alleged that two Janata Dal (Secular) MLAs from the district, Dinakar Shetty and Suneel Hegde, had approached him demanding money to join the Bharatiya Janata Party under “Operation lotus”.

Addressing presspersons along with Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, Primary and Secondary Education Minister, who is also the district in- charge Minister of Uttara Kannada, Mr. Anant alleged that Suneel and Dinakar had demanded crores of rupees and repeatedly sent feelers that they would join BJP. But when party did not yield to it, they alleged that BJP had offered them crores of rupees, he claimed.

Mr. Kageri who came down heavily on the former Minister Anand Asnotikar, alleged that the latter was lured by the former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and some Congress leaders to revolt against BJP.

Mr. Kageri said special attention would be given to development works in Karwar constituency as it has no MLA now. He said instructions had been issued to officials to speed up the all development works undertaken by the government.

On the frequent transfer of Deputy Commissioners in the district, Mr. Kageri said that there were many reasons for the transfers of eight Deputy Commissioners within a span of three years. He said the transfer of Deputy Commissioners would not affect development works. The Government has the authority to transfer the officials who create hindrance in development works undertaken by it, Mr. Kageri said.

Rain during last two days had destroyed the paddy and arecanut in the district. Instruction had been given to the revenue department to carry out the survey of the damage and distribute compensation to farmers, the Minister said.
