The process of filing nomination papers for the Assembly elections began in the district on Wednesday.

Halleraya Gurunathreddi Desai of the Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) filed papers from the Hubli-Dharwad West Assembly constituency and Kallappa Basappa Gudihal filed papers from Kalghatagi Assembly constituency.


A majority of aspirants refrained from filing nomination papers on Wednesday as it was ‘amavasya’, which is not considered auspicious.

The filing of nomination papers will resume on Friday as Thursday is a public holiday for Ugadi.

The last date for filing nomination papers is April 17. The scrutiny will take place the next day and the last date for withdrawal of papers is April 20.

Yet to finalise names

The Bharatiya Janata Party, Congress and Janata Dal (S) are yet to finalise their candidates for some of the Assembly constituencies in the district.
