Two elephants have died in Nagarahole and Bandipur national park limits in the last 24 hours.

The carcass of a female elephant aged about 45 years was found on the Karnataka-Kerala border near D.B. Kuppe on Monday. It had bullet injuries near the neck and ears, and is suspected to have been shot while raiding a farm.

In another incident, a 12-year-old female elephant, which was in an emaciated state in Gundre range, died on Sunday. The elephant was administered medical aid by the Forest Department personnel, but it was of no avail. — Special Correspondent
