Two persons drowned at Gokak falls across Ghataprabha river, 8 km from Gokak town on Monday.

The deceased have been identified as Gundappa Lingappa Kodli (25) and his nephew Anil Malleshi Kodli (9), both residents of Bagwad village of Manvi taluk in Raichur district.

According to the police, Anil accidently fell into the river while trying to jump off a rock. His uncle, Gundappa, jumped in to save him, but drowned.

They were among a group of 40 persons on a tour to Gokak Falls.

The group, after visiting Shri Danamma Devi temple at Guddapur, near Jat in Sangli district of Maharashtra and Shri Renuka Devi temple at Savadatti in Belgaum district, had decided to visit Gokak Falls.

Police said the incident occurred at about 5 p.m. By the time search operations commenced, the sun was down. Divers will look for the bodies tomorrow morning, said the police. A case has been registered.
