Two students died on the spot and four were injured after a KSRTC bus collided with a tractor on the outskirts of Hunsur town in Mysore district on Wednesday.

The victims have been identified as Naveen Kumar and Syed Arif, both aged 17 and students of Government Junior College in Hunsur.

The accident occurred when the bus was on its way to Hunsur from H D Kote. Four injured have been admitted in Hunsur general hospital and two in K R Hospital here.

Reports reaching here said there were over 100 passengers, mostly students from nearby villages, inside the bus when the accident took place. The bus driver lost control over the vehicle and rammed into a mud-laden tractor parked on the roadside from behind near Chikka Hunsur Lake. The bus driver and the conductor fled the place after the accident.

On learning the incident, police rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to hospital. The villagers helped the police in shifting the injured to hospital at Hunsur.

Later, the students staged a dharna at Hunsur demanding the arrest of the driver and conductor and compensation to the victims’ families. The local residents also joined the protest. Additional Superintendent of Police Mohan Reddy, Tahsildar Shivanandamurthy, town police officers rushed to the spot and persuaded the students to withdraw their agitation. The students demanded compensation of Rs. 10 lakh to the family members of each victim. An immediate relief of Rs 15,000 was announced and the officials promised to recommend for compensation as per the government norms.
