Two girls, one aged three and the other 18 months, lost their lives in separate accidents.

According to the police, three-year-old Dhanushri came under the wheels of a lorry on Tuesday. She was the daughter of Suresh and Nagalakshmi, residents of Whitefield. Suresh, owner of a provision store, was at an Ayyappa temple in K R Puram attending a pooja. Nagalakshmi, who is five months pregnant, headed to the temple along with Dhanusri on a bike driven by her elder brother. The child was seated on the fuel tank.

When the trio reached Rajapalya, near Hoodi Circle, a truck transporting LPG gas cylinders hit the bike from behind. While Nagalakshmi and her brother fell away from the lorry, Dhanusri came under its wheels. The driver fled from the spot.

Nagalakshmi suffered a head injury while her brother escaped with minor injuries. Nagalakshmi was admitted to NIMHANS.

Residents tried to set the truck on fire, but were foiled by K.R. Puram traffic police.

The driver surrendered at Mahadevapura police station.

Tractor runs over girl

In another accident, 18-month-old Alia Begum died on Tuesday morning when a tractor ran over her in front of her house at Yelahanka.

According to the police, the accident occurred when Alia's grandmother was giving her a bath in front of the house.

When the grandmother went inside the house to fetch soap, Alia ran on to the road and started playing.

At the time, a tractor driver was reversing the vehicle nearby.

He failed to see the child and knocked her down. Alia died on the spot.

The Yelahanka traffic police have detained the tractor driver.
