Efforts are on to trace an elephant which was found in the Lakshmansandra tank in Tumkur taluk on Saturday.
The staff and officials of the Forest Department, who managed to drive the elephant out of the tank, could not direct it towards the Banerghatta forest because of heavy rain.
The operations will continue on Sunday.
According to sources, it went towards Gubbi taluk in Tumkur district.
The tusker was spotted by village residents, who informed the Forest Department staff.
Range Forest Officer Narasimhamurthy told The Hindu that the tusker, aged around 12, had separated from its herd in Advangi forest in Nelamangala taluk in Bangalore Rural district.
He said when they burst crackers to direct it towards the Bannerghatta forest, the tusker charged towards their jeep which was parked on the road towards Gubbi taluk. “It roared, growled and ran towards the Adagur plantation area,” he added.
