A tusker, which had sustained gunshot injuries and was found in a critical state at a private coffee plantation in Marur village near Thithimathi in Kodagu district on Tuesday, died on Wednesday after efforts to treat it failed.

The death was confirmed by Umashankar, veterinarian, who was treating the animal. The shot had pierced the ear and entered the head, he said. “The animal died at 6.15 a.m.,” Dr. Umashankar said.

Complaint

Thithimathi Range Forest Officer K. Gopal has filed a complaint at the Ponnampet police station in Kodagu. Deputy Conservator of Forests, Virajpet Division, Malatipriya and Circle Inspector of Police Raju visited the spot.
