BANGALORE: Members of the racing fraternity on Wednesday heaved a sigh of relief when the State Government told the Karnataka High Court that it would agree for extension of time to the Bangalore Turf Club (BTC) to shift its operations from Race Course Road premises to Doddajala.

It, however, made it clear that there was no question of going back on the decision to shift the racecourse to Doddajala on the outskirts of Bangalore.

Advocate-General (AG) Ashok Harnahalli made this submission when the court was hearing a petition by the BTC challenging the State Government’s decision not to renew the lease for the BTC land after December 31.

The Advocate-General had on the last date of hearing orally agreed not to precipitate matters relating to the shifting. The BTC has been saying it was granted the land in 1863 for conducting horse racing. It had till now not violated any of the conditions and that horse races were being held there for more than a century.
