The Tungabhadra continues to flow in full spate owing to the heavy discharge from the reservoir in Hospet.

On Wednesday, as against an inflow of 73,422 cusecs, the discharge was around 90,226 cusecs. Around 86,000 cusecs were being let into the river, through 28 out of the total 33 crest gates, in addition to the right and left bank canals. Apart from submerging the ‘purandara mantap’ and several monuments in Hampi, the river rages just a foot below the bridge linking Kampli in Bellary with Gangavathi in Koppal.

If the river starts flowing even higher, it is bound to cut off this link; however, this is regarded as a common phenomenon. The bridge will be submerged once the discharge from the reservoir crosses 1 lakh cusecs.

There were no reports of any casualties along the banks of the river.
