Laxman Mane, leader of nomadic tribes, has alleged that politicians of the ruling party had kept the nomadic tribes away from political power even though Justice R.N. Bapat Commission on nomadic tribes had recommended that they should be given an opportunity for their development. The Union and State governments had not yet acted as per the commission's recommendations, he said.

Mr. Mane said here on Saturday that if the Government failed to act as per the commission's recommendations, he would resort to indefinite fast from January 26 in Mumbai. He pointed out that there were about 42 nomadic tribes which were treated differently in various States in the country.

Unless these tribes were included in the category of Scheduled Castes, fruits of development would elude them.
