Hospital and medical college proposed to be built in Gulbarga

30 acres of land identified in Gulbarga University campus

Gulbarga: Soon after assuming office, the Union Labour and Employment Minister, M. Mallikarjun Kharge, had sanctioned a super speciality hospital and medical college to Gulbarga district. Mr. Kharge had written to Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa seeking early handing over of the land needed for the purpose. He also requested Gulbarga University to agree to transfer 30 acres of land in its main campus to the ESI Corporation authorities for the project.

Gulbarga University, in its Syndicate meeting, passed a resolution agreeing to hand over the required land. The State Government then directed officials to finalise the formalities.

Official sources told The Hindu here on Tuesday that as per the directions of the State Government, Deputy Commissioner K.S. Satyamurthy on Tuesday convened a meeting of the ESI Corporation officials and Gulbarga University authorities to finalise the price of the identified land and also to fix the yearly rent for the land which will be given on lease for 99 years.

Sources said the meeting agreed to fix the price of the land according to the prices quoted in the registrar office for the land in Gulbarga University area. Those who attended the meeting agreed to send the proceedings of the meeting to the State Government for approval.

However, Regional Commissioner Rajneesh Goel told authorities concerned that the price fixed for the land was too high and he would review the proposal again after calling for the files pertaining to the transfer of land to ESI Corporation.
