Udupi: The Department of Handloom and Textiles will train 80 persons belonging to the Scheduled Tribes in the production of handloom products. These trainees will be from Bahidy village under the Kollur Gram Panchayat and Hara village under the Chittur Gram Panchayat, from the naxalite-affected belt in Kundapur taluk of the district

Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, Handlooms and Textiles Assistant Director B.R. Yogish said the training would be given under the Suvarna Vastra Neethi programme of the Government.

The beneficiaries would be extended facilities by the Government for employment after undergoing training, he said. Minister for Textiles, Youth Services and Sports Gulihatti D. Shekhar will inaugurate the training programme on January 17.
