Chairman of the New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) P. Tamilvanan has appealed to the importers and exporters in north Karnataka to make use of the facilities available at the NMPT for furthering their business interests. He was speaking at the Trade Meet organised jointly by the Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Hubli, and the NMPT on the former's premises here on Saturday. Addressing a group of industrialists and traders from the region, Mr. Tamilvanan briefed about the advanced facilities that were being made available at the NMPT and how its proximity to the region would help in cutting down cost.

He said several initiatives had been undertaken in the recent years and as a result now NMPT was able to handle even the mainline vessels. The port had handled 12 mainline vessels in the previous year. With the mainline vessels coming to the port, it was possible for exporters to get their consignments delivered in a week.
