BELLARY: A kirana merchant in Kharosi village in Chikkodi taluk of Belgaum district was allegedly duped by some persons to the tune of Rs. 4 lakh in cash.

Complaint

In a complaint filed with the Mariyammanahalli police in Hospet taluk, Mohammed Ghouse said he had been approached recently by a person, who had identified himself as Ramesh, and two others.

They had told him that they had gold coins with them that they wished to exchange for cash. He got a couple of coins from them tested and found them to be original.

On January 28, he got a call from Ramesh and was told to wait near Gunda road. He was taken to an isolated place and given "gold coins" tied in cloth, for which he gave Rs. 4 lakh in cash in return. Later, he was shocked to find fake gold coins in the cloth, police said.

The Mariyammanahalli police have registered a case.
