The taluk panchayat finance standing committee meeting here on Wednesday decided to conduct an inquiry into the alleged misappropriation of funds in the development works taken up by Forest and Horticulture departments.

The decision was taken after the taluk panchayat members — Anand and Parameshwar — alleged that there was widespread misappropriation of funds in the development works taken up by these departments and the officers concerned were directly responsible for it. Besides, the officers had also done mistakes in selection of beneficiaries for providing benefits under different government schemes.

“Instead of selecting the actual beneficiaries, the officers in these two departments provided the benefits of different schemes to their near and dear ones by creating false documents. Facilities have been given only to a few villages in the taluk and the villages have been neglected. This clearly shows that transparency was not maintained in providing the benefits of the schemes,” they alleged.

The officers of Horticulture and Forest departments were providing benefits of government schemes to Chikbennur and Chigondanhalli villages and were completely neglecting other departments.

“A thorough inquiry should be conducted into the benefits provided under different schemes to these villages and the number of actual beneficiaries,” they demanded.

Keeping all the facts in view, the taluk panchayat decided to conduct a thorough inquiry into the works taken up in these two departments.
