Bangalore: A 23-year-old tourist from London, Cole Jacky George, died after he accidentally fell — face down on the ground — climbing a barricade on a road divider while trying to cross the road. The freak accident occurred around 7 a.m. in front of the Bangalore City Railway Station.

According to eye witnesses, Mr. George, who was on his own, hit the ground and suffered severe bleeding. He died in seconds.

Mr. George, a student from London on a six-month tourist visa, had toured Nepal before arriving in India on September 11.

He had boarded a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation bus in Mysore at 4 a.m. on Tuesday, alighting in Bangalore around 6.30 a.m. and walked across to the City Railway Station to collect his baggage from the cloakroom.

“Coming out of the railway station, he climbed the barricade to cross the road. As he was doing so, he slipped and lost his life tragically,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic West) Panduranga H. Rane told The Hindu.
