In view of potholes on express highway near Satara, guardian minister for Satara Shashikant Shinde warned that if urgent repairs were not carried out before Dasara festival, toll collection on the highway would be opposed. In a meeting of officials of the district administration, State Road Development Corporation and contractors on Tuesday, Mr. Shinde criticised the officials and contractors who have neglected the road repairs work with a warning to ban toll collection from October 14 if the repairs were not carried out by then.

Litigants back advocates’ agitation

Litigants in and around Kolhapur backed the ongoing advocates’ agitation for a division bench of the High Court here and expressed their willingness to participate in the agitation which has been going on for the past 42 days. The meeting presided over ex-mayor of Kolhapur Municipal Corporation Vilasrao Sasane decided to convene a meeting of all litigants in the six districts of the southern Maharashtra to formulate a plan of action.

Police allegedly assault handicapped worker

A handicapped worker from Islampur in Sangli district alleged that three police constables at Islampur severely beat him up because he did not give his mobile phone to them when demanded. Mallapa Lalsangi lodged a complaint with the district Superintendent of Police Dilip Sawant, stating that after he denied his mobile phone to the police officers, they grabbed his phone, removed the SIM card and took him to the police station where they allegedly assaulted him with kicks and blows. He said he had to take medical treatment for the injuries.
