HUBLI/DHARWAD: `Togalu Gombeyata' was presented by Gombe Mane of Dharwad as part of Dharwad Utsav, at Sawai Gandharva Hall in Hubli on Saturday.

A team of puppetry enthusiasts led by Prakash Garud showed that the age-old art of puppetry could be used to convey a social message.

The team made use of quips, one-liners and the dialogue delivery style of traditional theatre companies to convey the message.

On Friday, the highlight was the play directed by Naseeruddin Shah. Woven around three Urdu stories "Chuui Muee," "Mudhal Baccha" and "Gharwali" by Ismat Chughtai, the play saw lively performances from Heeba Shah, Ratna Pathak and Naseeruddin Shah.

Another noteworth performance was that by Kathak danseuse Malabika Mitra and her troupe.
