Minister for Higher Education V.S. Acharya has criticised the functioning of Governor H.R. Bhardwaj and said “the time has come for the Governor to leave the Raj Bhavan”.
Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, Dr. Acharya said: “The Governor is acting more like a Congress agent and not the constitutional head of the State. There is no breakdown of the constitutional machinery and the law and order situation is normal. Under these circumstances, the Governor's recommendation to the Centre to impose President's Rule is unethical and undemocratic.”
He said the Governor had been acting with vengeance to remove the Government headed by Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa ever since he came to the Raj Bhavan. The Government enjoys a comfortable majority in the Lower House of the legislature and consequently his recommendation is “politically motivated and against the spirit of the Constitution”.
He added that Mr. Bhardwaj had not been discharging the duties bestowed upon him by the Constitution. The Minister said he had seen the functioning of 18 Governors in the past but “I have not seen this type of a Governor who has turned the Raj Bhavan into Congress Bhavan”.
