Madikeri: Tibetans, rallying under the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress, Bylakuppe, staged a peace march and converged on the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Friday to register their protest against what they called as use of force by the Chinese authorities to put down the peaceful protests by Tibetans in Tibet.

The protesters urged the international community to take note of the “grave” situation in Tibet, terming the Chinese action as an assault on Tibetan culture, language and religion. The procession was taken out from the Gandhi Maidan here to the Deputy Commissioner’s office at the Fort.

A large number of Tibetans had lost lives and many were missing after they were arrested by the Chinese authorities, the members alleged. A memorandum addressed to the Secretary General of the UN was later handed over to the representatives of the district administration. Members of the Tibetan community from Bylakuppe, Koppa and Kushalnagar participated in the protests.
