Tension prevailed in Karpura village near Anekal after a Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation bus ran over a three-year-old boy on Thursday evening. A crowd gathered around the bus and pelted it with stones, damaging the windshield and windows.

According to the Anekal police, Sakina Baig, who sold fish in the village, had taken her four children to buy food for them. While two of her children had accompanied her to the shop, the other two Sayed Liaqath (3) and Sayed Inayath (5) stayed near the Karpura bus-stand.

Around 3.45 p.m., the two children walked towards the bus-stand where the bus, heading towards Attibele, was dropping off passengers.

Severely injured

When the bus moved forward, it ran over Sayed Liaqath, who had unknowingly strayed onto the road. He suffered grievous injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died an hour later.

Meanwhile, a small crowd that had gathered around the bus-stand started pelting the bus with stones.

The damage would have been greater if the police had not reached the scene and escorted the driver to the police station, said Anekal police. They added that the driver would be formally arrested only after an investigation into his role in the accident.
