The IDF Self-Help Group (SHG) Federation in association with the National Bank of Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) will organise a ‘Deepavali Bazaar’ at the Vanavasi Ram Mandir at Malmaddi, here from November 9 to 11.
A release by federation director M.S. Korimath stated that the event had been organised to highlight the work of women entrepreneurs from SHGs across the district. It would have 35 stalls for entrepreneurs to sell wares such as pickles, masala powders, sweets, vermicelli, along with products such as saris, tailored and embroidered by women belonging to a variety of SHG clusters.
Last year, an average of 750 people visited the bazaar each day, bringing the total daily sales up to Rs. 38,000. This year, a daily average of 850 people and total sales of Rs. 50,000 had been expected, the release said.
In addition to previous year’s stalls, there would also be a Kai Krafts stall, where Kasuti products made by Kasuti artisans would be sold. Kai Krafts, an IDF initiative, aims at promoting the dying art forms of north Karnataka. There would also be a stall which would sell diyas to bring in the festive cheer.
