Deepavali turned tragic for the families of the three youth from the city who were killed in an accident at Dindigul when they were returning from Sabarimala.

Lokesh (27), Vinay (21) and Bharath (23) were the victims. While Lokesh was a call centre employee, Vinay was employed with Air India and Bharath with a private company and was pursuing a MBA correspondence course. He was residing in Prakash Nagar on Rajkumar Road. Following the news of the accident, the families left for Dindigul on Monday morning. Lokesh was the only son of Prakash, a resident of Mahalakshmi Layout, and had been working in the call centre for some months.

While Lokesh’s family had been used to his frequent visits to the temple, it was a different scenario in the family of Vinay, a resident of K.P. Agrahara, for whom it was a maiden trip to Sabarimala. “All our relatives were there when he left for the trip from the Aiyappa temple here on Thursday. He called us on Sunday night from Madurai and had spoken to his mother. He had told us that he would proceed to Salem before returning to the city later on Monday. But he was killed in such an unexpected manner,” his father lamented.

The bodies of the deceased are likely to arrive late Monday night after the post-mortem formalities are completed. The driver of the vehicle also succumbed to injuries soon after the accident.

Meanwhile, there were some who managed to escape from the accident and were glad to reunite with their families.
