Three boys drowned in a rivulet at Shiriyar village near Kota in Udupi district on Monday.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Gautham (12), Karthik (11) and Kaushik (7). Four boys had gone near the rivulet to wash their hands, when Kaushik accidentally slipped and fell into the water.

Gautham, Karthik and Sharath jumped into the rivulet to save Karthik, but in vain. In the process, Gautam and Karthik got drowned, only Sharath managed to come out. The bodies had been recovered.

Gautham was the son of Gopal Poojary, while Karthik and Kaushik were sons of Thimappa Poojary.

All the three were students of a government school in Achlady.

While Gautham was studying in Class 7, Karthik was studying in Class 6 and Kaushik in Class 2. Sharath was a Class 9 student.
