BANGALORE: Three newly elected members of the Legislative Council were sworn in on Tuesday.

Council Chairman Veeranna Mathikatti administered oath to the members, elected on the Bharatiya Janata Party ticket, at the Banquet Hall of the Vidhana Soudha.

The newly elected members are the former Minister for Horticulture Shashikant Akkappa Naik (Belgaum), Shivaraj Sajjan (Dharwad) and S.G. Medappa (Kodagu).

Resignations

They defeated their Congress rivals in the byelections held recently following the resignations of Basavaraj Bommai of the Janata Dal-U (Dharwad), Balachandra Jarkiholi of the JD-S (Belgaum) and Arun Machaiah, Independent (Kodagu). They resigned to contest the Legislative Assembly elections held in May.

Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, State BJP president D.V. Sadananda Gowda, Public Works Minister C.M. Udasi and Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Shobha Karandlaje were present on the occasion and greeted the new MLCs.
