GULBARGA: Three persons were killed and two were injured when the Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) in which they were travelling collided with an LPG cylinder-laden truck near Central Jail on Gulbarga-Jewargi highway on Monday night.

The deceased are Managing Director of a local cable network and medical professional Siddaram Reddy, Bharaiya Janata Party leader Prakash Nagamurthy Vishwakarma and Gangadhar Swamy Hiremath. All of them were killed on the spot.

The injured include BJP’s Gulbarga City unit president Sharanabasappa Kadadi and Gururaj Reddy. Mr. Kadadi, who suffered head injures, has been shifted to a private hospital in Solapur in Maharashtra. Gururaj Reddy is undergoing treatment at the Basaveshwar Teaching and General Hospital in Gulbarga city.

All the five persons travelling in the SUV were returning from Raichur after meeting the senior BJP leaders who were canvassing for Mr. Kadadi’s appointment as chairman of the Gulbarga Urban Development Authority. The truck was proceeding towards Jewargi.

A case has been registered in the Farhatabad police station.

This is the second accident in one week on the same stretch on the national highway. It has turned into a virtual death-trap for motorists
