Three persons were feared dead at Jog Falls on Sunday when they accidentally slipped into a stream.

The victims are identified as Dadapeer (30), Moinuddin Makandar (30) and his younger brother Haji Makandar (25). All three are residents of Gardenpet in Hubli. They had been to Jog with their friends for a picnic. Mr. Dadapeer is a tailor while the Makandar brothers were scrap dealers.

The police said the incident occurred around 6.30 p.m. when the trio were enjoying the view of the waterfalls near the Raja drop stream. The bodies were yet to be fished out of the water. Jog police have registered a case.

Goon shot dead

Bharat Thyagi (38), involved in a gang-war in Kolhapur-Ichalkaranji area, was shot dead after a chase on Kolhaupr-Sangli road on Sunday. The police said he was involved in a gang war and a number of crimes including murder, extortion, and assaults were recorded against him. The police suspects that members of the rival gang might have shot him.

Child drowns in sewage

Three-year-old Shivanand Ghasti, residing in a colony at Mutnal in Kolhapur district, fell in a sewage hole near the colony and died. The hole was non-operational as the lavatory building had not been completed but was full of rain water, said the police.
