Three accused in the murder of Nagaraj Shankar Madival (40) of Hegde village in Kumta taluk were arrested by Sirsi police on Monday.

Speaking to mediapersons, CPI Shivaprakash Naik at Town Police Station here said the deceased was found murdered on a storm water drainage at Bommanalli cross near Sirsi on Thursday and the complaint was registered by Sirsi taluk president Gururpad Hegde who found the body.

The accused were Usha Madival, wife of the deceased, Rahul/Ravi/Ravindra Sirsikar of Sirsi and Darshan/Sandesh Shivanna Shetty of Nitte village in Karkala taluk.

The CPI said the wife confessed that Mr. Madival used to harass her. This, along with a long-standing dispute over the family property, were the motives for the crime, the police said. Usha Madival had registered a case of harassment by husband in Kumta police station 10 years ago, but later withdrew the complaint after a compromise was reached between the husband and wife, he said.

The CPI added that further investigation was on. Uttara Kannada SP declared a suitable prize to the police officers and staff involved in the investigation for tracing the accused in just four days after the crime.
