A protest was staged in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Tuesday by the villagers of Thogarighatta under the leadership of Karnataka Janata Paksha leader Vaale Chandraiah against setting up of a solid waste plant in Thogarighatta in Koratagere taluk in Tumkur district by the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike.

The agitators said that small and marginal farmers belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and other backward classes have land in Thogarighatta.

If the solid waste plant is set up there, then they have to face problems.

There are temples near the site identified for the plant and hence, the site will create problems to visiting devotees, they said.

Violation

The agitators alleged that though the pollution control board had in its report sent to the government said that the place is not suitable for setting up the plant, the BBMP was trying to set up the plant in Thogarighatta in violation of the recommendations in the report.

A memorandum was submitted to Additional Deputy commissioner V. Doddappa.
