MANGALORE: Thieves targeted the Munishwara temple located in the Police Lines area here on the Thursday night and got away with silver and gold jewellery worth about Rs. 2.60 lakh, the police said.

H.N. Venkatesh Prasanna, Inspector, Mangalore South police station, said that the thieves entered the temple by breaking the latch on a door located on the left side of the temple. They broke another latch to gain entry into the sanctum sanctorum, Mr. Prasanna said. The thieves took two silver masks, a silver "panipeeta" weighing nearly 12 kg and about 20 grams of gold, all valued at about Rs. 2.60 lakh, he said. Fingerprints experts visited the crime scene.

The Mangalore South (Pandeshwar) police have registered a case.
