Thieves smashed open the window of a parked car and made away with Rs. 5 lakh in cash in Devanahalli Friday morning.

The car belonged to Venugopal, a city industrialist, who had parked the car near the ICICI Bank branch to attend a business meeting, Devanahalli police said.

Burnt body found

Police are trying to establish the identity of a middle-aged woman whose charred body was found by passers-by in a vacant site on 19th Cross Road in Subramanyanagar on Friday.

Subramanyanagar police suspect she may have been murdered the night before and the body burnt to conceal her identity.

They are now going through the missing persons’ data as part of their investigations.

Student killed

A student was killed when a speeding BMTC bus rammed his bike on the ring road Friday morning, Rajajinagar police said.

Vijayanagar resident Monish, a student of Government Tool Room and Training Centre on West of Chord Road, was on his way to his class around 8 a.m.

He entered the ring road from the service road, when a speeding BMTC bus knocked down his bike. He died of head injuries. The driver fled, leaving behind the bus, Rajaninagar police said.

Monish was the son of Vijay Kumar, who runs an industry in Peenya.

The Rajajinagar traffic police have registered a case against the bus driver.
