While the whole city was immersed in Holi celebrations on Thursday, residents of the Karnatak University Akka Mahadevi Women’s Hostel could not participate in it. The entire building was locked for the day, and hostellers were forbidden from leaving the premises.

When presspersons visited the campus, the hostel gate and its entrance were found locked. Hostellers had been confined inside from Wednesday evening to Thursday evening. Even National Service Scheme volunteers from the hostel were not allowed to attend a special NSS camp.

Student welfare cell director J.M. Nagaiah said a circular was issued, prohibiting students from celebrating inside the hostel. However, the warden was not asked to confine the hostellers. Ms. Ratnakar said that the hostel had been locked to prevent any untoward incidents.
