MYSORE: When Kannada matinee idol Rajkumar breathed his last on Wednesday, 27 destitute women and six children, who had taken shelter at Shaktidhama Rehabilitation Centre in Mysore, lost their benefactor.

The inmates of Shaktidhama reacted with disbelief when they first heard about the sudden demise of Dr. Rajkumar. For he and his family not only built and nurtured the rehabilitation centre in Mysore but also visited them frequently and inquired about their well-being.

Though they found it hard to come to terms with the loss, the inmates of Shaktidhama pulled themselves up. They garlanded a portrait of Rajkumar and sang bhajans in his memory.

The superstar had mobilised funds for the construction of Shaktidhama by organising a musical programme two years ago.
