Two students from Mysore are among the top scorers in the SSLC examination, the results of which were announced on Thursday.

While B. Charitha Venkatesh of Vijaya Vittala Vidyashala scored 619 out of 625, Pratiksha Nayak of Sadvidya High School secured 618 out of 625.

The top marks of 620 were secured by three students: one from Hassan and two from Bellary.

Charitha's parents are B.M. Venkatesh, professor in Chemistry at Yuvaraja's College, Mysore, and R.T. Radhika, professor of Chemistry, First Grade College, Periyapatna.

Flying high

A student who believes in smart work rather than hard work, Charitha is not only focussed but has set her goals high, dreaming of becoming an astronaut. Not surprisingly, she has decided to pursue a course in aerospace engineering at IIT after she completes PU.

“As a child I was always interested in space and was fascinated by the universe. Hence, I am determined to pursue aerospace engineering after PUC,” she said.

Her determination can be gauged by the fact that she has already enrolled for integrated IIT entrance coaching at a Bangalore-based institution.

‘No learning by rote'

“I never learnt lessons by rote. I was advised by my parents to study the subject to master it and understand the concepts. This helped me study for small periods with breaks rather than study for an extensive period of time,” said Charitha.

When asked if she expected to be among the toppers, Charitha said: “I had done well. I had stood 11th in the State in the National Talent Search Examination and so was hopeful of doing exceptionally well.”

Hard work

Pratiksha believes in hard work. Her parents are K.L. Nayak, an officer at Canara Bank and Sabitha Nayak.

She studied hard, mastered the concepts and attended tuitions to ensure that the fundamentals were strong. She is also a Bharatnatya dancer. She wants to become an engineer.

She stood 8th in the State NTSE.
