South Kanara District Chess Association will conduct a free “special tournament preparation coaching camp” on May 19 at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan here from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for chess players from the district aged under 15.

Chess players who want to participate in the upcoming national and State-level chess championships can participate, according to M.S. Gururaj, president of the association. He said in a statement that M.S. Thejkumar, an International Chess Master having three Grand Master norms, will teach nuances of tournament preparations, tactics and end games.

Mr. Thejkumar has to his credit Fide Rating of 2451.

He is the former U-25 national champion; champion in more than five All India open fide rated chess tournaments; participated in national “A” Championship (5 times); and was the joint champion in Orissa Grand Master Chess Tournament 2009.

He is known for his tactical and positional playing, Mr. Gururaj said.
