‘Theatre must focus on new areas of conflicts’

Vishweshari Hiremath gets Abhinaya Bharati award

DHARWAD: Theatre exponent Prakash Garud has said that theatre should throw light on new areas of conflicts emerging in the wake of globalisation.

He was speaking at the World Theatre Day celebrations and “Abhinaya Bharati Ranga Prashasti” presentation ceremony organised by Abhinaya Bharati here on Saturday. Mr. Garud said that in the wake of globalisation, theatre too was witnessing changes. Theatre should throw light on developments taking place in religion, politics and science, he added. On the occasion, theatre artiste Vishweshari Hiremath was honoured with “Abhinaya Bharati Ranga Prashasti” by president of the organisation Setumadhav Manvi.

Ms. Hiremath said it was a great honour to be felicitated in her hometown. Secretary of the organisation Aravind Kulkarni briefed about the World Theatre Day celebrations Jayateerth Jahagirdar traced the history of Abhinaya Bharati. Vatsala Kulkarni welcomed. Vinayak Nayak proposed a vote of thanks.
