Republic Day was celebrated across the city on Thursday and people recalled the sacrifices made by thousands of freedom fighters.

At the Jnana Bharathi campus of Bangalore University, Vice-Chancellor N. Prabhu Dev unfurled the national flag and recalled the contributions made by the freedom fighters. Speaking on the occasion, university Registrar B.C. Mylarappa said one who forgets history cannot create history, and exhorted students to be role models. Finance officer N. Rangaswamy, Physical Education principal P.C. Krishnaswamy and Gandhi Study Centre Director D. Jeevan Kumar were present.

At the Gandhi Bhavan, Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi president Ho. Srinivasaiah unfurled the tricolour and paid rich tributes to freedom fighters even as hundreds of students followed him.

At High Court

Karnataka High Court Chief Justice Vikramajit Sen on Thursday stressed the need for tolerance towards other religions and cultures.

Addressing judges and advocates after unfurling the nation flag on the High Court premises, Chief Justice Sen said that such tolerance plays an important role in moving forward as a country.

Referring to the achievement of the country in the past six decades, he said success or failure cannot be ascertained in mere years as it require at least five to six generations to make an assessment.

He also said that the country and people need to introspect on the progress made so far.
